Dear Ms. DelBene
I am calling on you (Ms. DelBene) to support children and families who are at-risk in our community by voting to support more affordable housing and childcare to reduce homeless in the new Congress.
Do you know about 1 in 6 children—11.9 million in total—were poor in 2018? More than 5 million of these children lived in extreme poverty at less than half the poverty level. Nearly 3 in 4 (75%) poor children were children of color. The youngest children were most likely to be poor, with nearly 1 in 5 children under 5 living in poverty during the years of rapid brain development. There are over 8,100 homeless individuals were observed in Seattle alone, totaling over 11,700 across all of King County since July 2020. The rate will continue to increase due to COVID.
Children poverty has lifelong consequences on children’s physical, social, and emotional development. If we don’t do anything, USA will not be a safe place. Crime rate will go up. Welfare needs will go up. The support that I need, let’s provide affordable housing, job training, & affordable childcare so parents can work.
With Ms. Delbene’s help, we can continue to effectively serve Seattle’s vulnerable children and families, opening windows of opportunity in their lives.
Thank you for your time
