Reflection
As a teacher, we need to involve ourselves with the early childhood field and become an advocates to our students by partnering with their parents.
As an educator, we need to help advocate to reduce challenges facing early childhood education.
We should help provide guidance to parents by sharing available resources to get the supports that they need to make their children more successful in school and in life.
In my Advocacy Agenda, I focus on reducing child poverty (1 in 8 families) in Seattle. Since the pandemic’s onset, Washington families have experienced a rolling crisis in jobs, hunger, health, and education. The prospect of eviction hangs over far too many. Food insecurity has skyrocketed. Childcare facilities have closed, many of them permanently. And a rocky transition to remote learning is now impeding students’ educational progress. The acute stress on children and families may harm kids’ health, their education, and their ability to earn a living.
Children poverty has lifelong consequences from it. When children have malnutrition, it can last a lifetime & it can have long-term consequences on children’s physical, social, and emotional development.
I really hope Biden will be able to pass the law that allows people to get free college education so they can have a better future for their families.
Reflection
As a teacher, we also need to understand ethic and legal requirements that are also part of the profession.
As part of my teaching philosophy, I understand that we need to follow rules and policies from our own state. We are mandated reporter and we should protect our students if we suspect any abuse/neglect.
I also understand that we should discuss private matter (divorce, development delays) related to a student in private with their own families. We should respect each family's privacy as long as it does not impact the safety of the student.
Inclusion is very important in our class. We should learn their cultural differences to help understand their background and incorporate their cultural celebration into our class.
Reflective Connection
To show my professional communication skills using technology to support young children's learning and development, I am including my curation page.
As part of my curation page, I am sharing resources to my families and colleagues to support young children's learning and development in each domains (language, cognitive, science, etc.).
To effectively support young children's learning and development, I also make short videos as part of my curation page so parents and colleagues can follow the instruction visually.
Reflective Connection
As a teacher it's important to continue learning and collaborate learning to inform practice.
To help me continue learning, I am currently working toward Master in Early Childhood Education to learn more about best practice. I also read research articles related to early childhood to continue my understanding and my practice.
To show my collaboration learning, I am including my curation page.

STANDARD 6: Professionalism as an Early Childhood Educator
Reflective Connection
I believe every child deserves to be treated equally for their development and learning to reach their full potential. I believe every student are unique since they have different background, learning style, and culture. That is why it’s very important for us to have inclusive experience in our school to ensure everyone can reach their full potential.
As a teacher, I believe it is important for teachers to perform assessment as often as possible so we can adjust our learning based on children's needs and interest. By performing more assessment, we can improve our practices and for identifying personal strengths and areas which need improvement.
As part of my Transformation Statement, I understand that we need to intentionally teach our children by adjusting our teaching styles based on their needs. I use UDL (Universal Design for Learning) as it promotes the principles of inclusion and differentiation for each student as their key principles are also around Access, Participation, and support based on every child’s learning preference (differentiation).
UDL principles that promote inclusion and differentiation since UDL is:
-
– Includes everyone (inclusive)
-
– is it accessible, adjustable, and individualized? --- differentiation in materials and support
-
– what will the students learn? How will they learn it? How will you engage them? – differentiation in teaching style to support their learning preferences so they can reach their full potential
