General Overview:

I want to introduce Bellevue Art Museum (BAM) as they have some fun creative art videos for our students. They have short videos that we can use to teach them how to make creative art. For my lesson, I am creating a silly Sea Turtle.

Ages 4 – 10

This Silly Sea Turtle craft is a fun way to practice the fundamentals of weaving!

MATERIALS
3 Popsicle sticks (alternatives: coffee stirrers, branches)
Paint (or: markers, colored pencils)
Yarn (or: string, cut up t-shirts, strips of plastic)
Sharpie (or: marker, colored pencil)

Authentic Learning Experience:

BAM provides authentic learning experience.

On BAM, students take ownership over their learning. They take ownership by choosing which art products (color, shapes, materials, etc.) that they are going to make.

BAM also has short videos on art projects on their website. Meaning preschools students can watch the video with their family and friends. This creates an authentic learning experience by allowing students to learn and practice any art skills in a community of learners.

Developmentally Appropriate Practices (child development, interest based, culturally appropriate):

BAM has created some videos library to provide all children and families access to arts that they can do at home. This website/app provides children with creative arts that represent all cultures, backgrounds, and families.

This activity allows students to take ownership over their learning by choosing what type of creative arts they are going to make and what they are going to learn about.

BAM is developmentally appropriate as it support student’s creative art development. It supports creative art development by providing children access to practice skills and activities to support creative art development by allowing them to use diverse materials.
